Praying and Fasting
Praying and Fasting
Hey guys! Quick question, have you ever felt the need to fast and pray? Have you ever done a biblical fast?
Recently, the Lord has called me to fast, and in the past, I've had people ask me how to do it or if there's a specific way to do it, as i was getting ready i felt the Lord asked me to share, one of the things I do to help organize my thoughts and stay focused is the guide below. I pray it helps you as you embark on this remarkable journey.
Strategy/Battle plan:
Pray, inviting the Holy Spirit to help direct and structure your prayer, so that you may find the right words and the right prayer strategy.
· Start with a prayer of confession and forgiveness. Read Psalms 51 in its entirety, make the psalm personal, insert your name in the psalm, and read verse by verse, asking God for mercy, forgiveness, and grace.
· Faith is essential. Have faith, pray with faith. Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
· Make a list of your specific prayer topics, then search for particular bible verses related to your prayer topic.
· Sing two worship songs, read two verses relating to the topic. Pray for/against (topic) and start anew with the next prayer topic from your list.
Example:
Fear
Isaiah 41:10 ("Fear not, for I am with you"), Philippians 4:6-7 (casting anxieties on God through prayer), and 2Timothy 1:7 (God's spirit is one of power, love, and self-control, not fear)
*Remember, God is attentive to your prayers and waits for you to draw near to him. Key verses to consider that speak to God's attentiveness to prayer
James 4:8 "Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you."
Psalm 5:1-3 "Give ear to my words, O Lord, consider my groaning. Give attention to the voice of my cry, my King and my God, for to you I will pray."
Remember: fasting is the act of abstaining from food with a spiritual goal in mind, to pursue and draw closer to God, in order to intercede or petition God about the matter you are fasting for.
